My garden was looking so nice, growing incredibly fast...until...the worm!! Some sort of worm has gotten into the stalk part of all the pumpkins, zuchinni and cucumbers! As I mentioned earlier (I think) I sprayed with a pesticide but, I think the damage is done and I will lose all my vegetables. I feel like Jonah-cursing the worm that ate the vine that provided shade! I'll bet it was the same worm! Anyway, when I went out to check the garden this morning-I saw the one zuchinni that had actually formed is now all shriveled up! Who knew that the plants could look healthy one day and dead the next...ok, farmers and gardeners know...apparantly not me! So far it looks like the tomatoes are doing well-there are several green ones on the vine ripening. I guess I'll have to go to the Farmer's Market to get some good veggies this summer.
Friday I went to the NewGate mission store-it's like goodwill but the proceeds go to a mission funded by the Methodist church. They have a brand new over sized leather chair that matches the chair we already have in the LR. I was so excited about this find-we've been looking for something like that for the office. Unfortunately they have not priced it yet and it won't be until Monday morning. I have no clue how much they'll ask for it but, I'm hoping to be there when they open to pick it up if it isn't too expensive!
It rained this morning which will prevent Calixto from getting a lot of work accomplished today. Christopher had soccer practice as scheduled-I was surprised at that! He'll come home with soaked and stinky shoes and socks. He needed the rigerous exercise though so I'm glad they didn't cancel!
Last night we gave Calixto his Father's day present early-it is a large cross that holds 5 5x7 pictures. I put in all black and white photos of the kids and him with the kids. I love the way it turned out and he thought it was the best present ever! The only thing is I'm not in any of the pictures-I just couldn't find one that worked well-so he kind of looks like a single dad! This afternoon we are off to Dallas to visit with his family. Which means I need to get Cat into the bath to do her hair-it's going to take forever since I haven't combed it all week!

Life
Today I had another "killer" headache! After going to the eye Doctor-the library-Wal-mart and the bank I was done for. I took a nap on the couch after our errands were complete, I was surprised at how quickly I fell asleep. I was awakened by the sound of harsh knocking I got up dazed and went from door to door looking for someone but found no one. So...I'm not sure if I imagined it or if the person left quickly after knocking so rudely! Oh well! My headache did get better after the nap, ibuprofen and a nice cold Coke!
Cat's vision therapy is going well and she has made some very significant progress! Angela-one of the Dr's assistants commented on how well behaved she is and how much self-control she has!! Wow, that was wonderful to hear! She also said that kids with the degree of vision problem she has are usually bouncing off the walls and are very out of control. What a blessing to hear that praise this morning. Cat is a very special little girl!!
Summer is plugging along-We still haven't decided whether to buy the pool-I really hope we do...I want it more than the kids! There wasn't too much picking on or arguing and the kids actually played Mario Cart for a while this evening and enjoyed their time together-yet another blessing today!
I found that ALL of my large pumpkin plants are dying!! they have some sort of worm eating the stems of the plants...I was so mad about those silly worms! I ditched the whole organic idea, headed straight to Lowes and bought bug killer! I hope the plants are salvageable. (Sorry Stephanie I think I must now keep the plant I've had sitting on my porch to give to you).
Well, it is 9:00 Calixto just got home and I need to get his dinner heated up!

This and That
Wow, it's been over a week since I posted anything!
Let's see...It is summertime and the kids need constant direction or arguing ensues! I haven't been as organized with them as I would have liked but it is going ok...we had planned on swimming but the weather is rainy. The rain is good and the temps are down so I'm not complaining! Maybe we'll head to the 50 cent movies this afternoon to see Nim's Island.
This weekend I had another garage sale at Dana's house with Stephanie...traffic was very slow! We had planned on just a Fri sale but held over Sat morn too. Unfortunately there was too much going on this weekend and we didn't fair so well...I didn't even break the $100 mark. But, hey that is money I didn't have before! And now the junk is gone! We could actually park the car in the garage...what a novel idea that is!!
Last week was pretty busy, as I received a phone call that could potentially change our lives...and I spent lots of time making phone calls getting good sound wisdom. I'll explain once all is resolved and settled over the matter. The kids, of course, took advantage of my phone talking to watch tv!!
On Sunday we made an unannounced, secret visit to Crossroads! The kids didn't know until we made a turn toward the church. They were so excited about being there. We had lunch with the Walter's which is always such a treat...we miss our Crossroads family! Lately, I've been seeing a lot of them and that has been wonderful!!
Yesterday, I thought I would buy a pool for the kids with my garage sale proceeds...I found one at Walmart-the price was good until I realized it was in the wrong place the actual price was $100 more-bummer! We went out later with Calixto to see if it is worth spending the money...we left empty handed and will think about it a little more! The kids were disappointed but, they handled it ok-no grumpiness anyway! I would love to get it...I think if we don't the kids are going to work with their dad at least 4 days a week!!!
My sister got married on Thur afternoon...weird time I know but, they just went before a judge and then took pictures at an old historic farmhouse. I have only spoken with my sister once since the fall when she told me about the man she was dating. I expressed my concern about the relationship and so she didn't call again! I called her Thur morning and we had a pretty heated discussion but then she finally dropped her defenses and I prayed for her on the phone, by the end she was teary. I really pray that this marriage works...he is a brand new Christian and they have 8 kids between them...lots of potential for problems! It is funny how very different we are-hard to believe we are even related?! Although, as we have gotten older people think we look more alike...I'm still not sure about that though.
My parents move from NJ to Oklahoma next week! wow! They will only be 4 hours away...that means summer vacation at the g'parents for the kids!!
Ok, I've got to get my sleepy headed son up from bed...I don't let him sleep later than 8:30 and it is already past that!!

The weekend-quite the long post!!!!!
This past weekend was very busy but, very fun as well. Friday night we rented Water horse...which the kids thoroughly enjoyed! We ended up not finishing it b/c Christopher had an early morning on Saturday and needed to be in bed early. We finally watched the rest Monday night! Cat, did get scared and ended up falling off of the couch in her fright...she was hurt a little bit...Christopher and I had to contain our giggles as it was pretty funny to see!
Saturday he left with the coach and his family to head to the tournament in Tyler, his game was at 8am so they left around 6:15. They won the 1st game and didn't play again until 3pm and then again at 6pm. That was one long day! They won all of those games which is exciting for them! He came home with new cleats and new ball-thanks to the coach! They spoiled him over the weekend.
While he was in Tyler, I softened Cat's hair...I will never do that again...I did mess up her curls. The texture is wonderfully soft but, the curls are straightened out in some places and is frizzy in others. I guess I'll just put it in braids a lot until it goes away. I'm thinking it is worth it to go to a professional...no more do-it-at-home for Cat's hair! After I did that she decided for some unknown reason to cut her hair!!!! Ugh!! She cut it right above her ear-I was so upset with her.
The reason we didn't go with Christopher is that we had CHS's graduation to attend. It was a beautiful ceremony and Dr. Austin was the speaker-he delivered a great speech. As part of the ceremony they show a video where each set of parents speak a blessing or words of encouragement to their child as pictures of them throughout the years are shown. It was beautifully done and brought tears to my eyes as we watched these babies, toddlers, elementery students just grow before our eyes into the young women and men they are today! It certainly brought to mind once again how quickly our years are passing with our children...just in a few years Christopher will be up there graduating and I will be crying all the more!!!
Later, at a dinner for Alana Squair we were able to catch up with friends we don't see very often. We also chatted a bit with Deb's parents...such a neat couple! Too bad they won't be coming to Longview anymore now that the Crowe's are gone. We do have an open invitation to visit them in NYC at Time's Square Church...now that would be a great thing to do!
We arrived home at the same time as Christopher-at 9:30pm-I had to wash his uniform for the morning and he hit the sack! On Sunday his game was not as early (9:30) so that was nice...although we don't prefer to miss church for sports we felt that we needed to follow through on our commitment and went as a family. I must say that it was nice spending the whole day together. Calixto has been working until after dark 6 days a week for the past few weeks! The team won the 1st game but then lost the next 2, which put us in 4th place. The official said ours was the most challenging age division b/c the teams are that good-that's why they gave 3rd and 4th place trophies! We ate dinner with several families after the games and really had a good time! I was reminded how different it is to hang out with non-believers! At one point the boys (at their own table) started playing Truth or Dare...a dangerous game?! and Christopher just walked away and watched the sports channel on the TV. I was proud of him for not getting sucked into something that potentially could have been dishonoring to God.
Yesterday, Merryl and Alana reported to homeland security and were told they must report back on July 14th with travel plans to leave the US in hand! They were hoping Alana's full scholarship to Louisiana Tech would allow her at least to stay. The judge told Merryl she could have her arrested on the spot or could put an ankle thing on her to monitor where she is in case she decided to try and stay! Please pray that God would indeed intervene and somehow allow them to stay here! I'm sure that decision just deflated the joy of Alana's graduation! I think if they must they will head to Canada and not return to South Africa. If only Merryl could find a man to marry!!!!
Ok, I' procrastinating on cleaning out our nasty garage!

Life...
Let's see what has happened in our lives since Friday morning when the storms came through?
On Friday afternoon my neighbor and friend came over and we just chatted for a while. Her daughter is the one who the swing fell on. Later, Dana and Stephanie came over to pick more berries...I think we have a never ending supply! I picked 8 more cups on Sunday evening! I'm going to make a cream cheese pie with blackberry (dew-berry) sauce on top. And I'm going to make some muffins...if I can find the web-site for the recipe I stumbled upon yesterday.
Saturday Christopher had his last soccer game at 9am. This game determined who would win 2nd place. We always come down to this last game with this other team...WE WON!! Yay Tigers! Christopher made the first goal and it was beautiful! I think it was a corner kick, he was right in front of the goal-with a good friend right by his side defending him...the ball came to him and he headed it right past the goalie!!! I wish I had a video of it-it really was incredible! We won 2nd place although we were even in points with the 1st place team...but, since we lost to them (such a pitiful game that was!) they awarded them 1st place instead of playing a tie breaker game! At the end the boys were all happy with 2nd place and they had a blast at the party that evening!
Cat played at noon and scored 3 goals! She is very coordinated and can control the ball very well. In the fall she will move up to a new age bracket while 1/2 her team will stay back due to their age. She had so much fun playing this season! She also had her party at a park and declared it to be a wonderful day at the end of it!
Saturday sure was busy for us but it went quite smoothly...maybe b/c Christopher went over a friend's house after his game! The friend was on the opposing team...it is so good to see that they can be so very competitive on the field and then leave that behind and hang out together right afterward!
On sunday we went to Mobberly again and then met with our life group afterward. It is so nice to be in that group, we've really enjoyed the other 2 couples-the fellowship and studying God's word together has been great! We still don't know whether this will be our home...I'm the hold-out...it is just such a big church-the biggest in town! The new worship leader starts this Sunday and I can't wait for him to start! We like more contemporary worship where we can actively worship and not just sit and listen to others sing. So, we'll see...we can't even think about visiting another church...it just gets tiresome and lonely going from one church to another.
After Life group Christopher had soccer practice...I know the season is over! But, we are trying to figure out where he can play next. Once you get to the U-12 league players are eligible to play club ball...that means all or most of the good players leave the recreation league. There are several options that we are considering...in the meantime, we will play in tournaments as they come up. He'll be playing in one in Tyler in a few weeks. One great thing is we have the head coach for boys soccer from LeTourneau leading the practices...I'm so excited about that!
While he was practicing I took Chessie for a walk around campus and then let her swim in the pond. There are several ducks in the pond, she has always swam after them but has never been able to get them...until Sunday! She surprised one in the reeds and got it!! I ran over and made her drop it...she jumped back in the water and kept diving under to find that duck. She spent the next 40 minutes in the water swimming after those ducks! She was determined to get one!! I could not believe how long she swam!! I thought she was going to drown! As she was swimming she was whining...but she was not going to give up. After the boys were finished practicing a few came over and helped catch her as she jumped out of the pond! She could barely get up into the car she was so tired!!
So, I missed a baby shower I was supposed to go to, b/c of all that! As I drove home there were at least 5 police cars at a house (a mansion) on Green street just a block away...apparantly someone came into the house and started stealing from them...and they were home! They ran out with the TV and dropped it in the driveway! How scary! I don't think they found the theives!
On Mondays I tutor back to back students...I had to send my first student home for his disrespect and disobedience! I felt bad for him, knowing his parents weren't going to be happy at all but, I had to do it. His behavior was very uncharacteristic of him...hopefully, tomorrow will go better.
Christopher's behavior has also been uncharacteristic of him! I don't know what is going on with him! Last night it all came to a head and he was disciplined pretty severly! This morning he was in such a good mood...I'm praying that this was a turning point and the rest of the semester (2 weeks) goes well. I think that Calixto's long work hours are taking a toll on him!
ok, sorry for the long post...I think I'll stop here...I could continue...but I'll save it for later!!

A re-cap of the last week
Wow...it has been over a week since I've posted...I don't exactly know why?! Anyway here is a little "catch-up"
*Fri. evening we went on a date! Calixto set up the babysitter and we went out for dinner and then dessert/coffee. It was nice to go out-we haven't been on a date in a long long time!
*Sat. was another "all-dayer" at the soccer fields. Cat had 2 games and Christopher had 1 plus Cat had pictures too. I usually give her $.50 per goal but, on Sat. I told her I'd give her $1 instead...well that was some motivator...she scored "7" goals in the 1st game and "3" more in the 2nd game! Ok, next time there will be a "cap" on how much she can get paid!
*Christopher, finally got to hang out with Brady all afternoon...thanks to Miss Beth!!
*We sat by our fire in the evening and ate chili dogs and roasted marshmallows...I love sitting by the fire!
*Sun. we forgot to call the leaders of the Life group we're going to and weren't sure we were meeting...they did meet...we didn't! We really missed that time and felt all alone at church!
*Mon. I took Cat to the eye Dr. and found out her eyes do not work together and she sees double when things are reading distance from her eyes!!! Ugh!-That means vision therapy for at least 10 weeks. I have no clue how we will pay for this but, it must be taken care of. For good vision hygiene there will be no reading, coloring, game playing or movie watching in the car! Wow!
*I started another tutoring student on Mondays. Why oh why do schools not teach proper pencil holding and proper letter formation...this is important!!! This is even from a private-prestigious school!
*Tues. I mowed all the grass...I felt so good afterward and the yard looks beautiful! I love working outdoors!
*Only 3 more dance classes before recital, yikes!
*Thu. I took Chessie to get tested for heartworms and get the Rx. Fortunately, no heartworms-she has been off the prevention for 3 months now so I was a bit worried. I ran into a friend at the "Animal Protection League" so that was fun. I certainly recommend getting your pet's vacc.s there-much cheaper!
*All 3 of our gardens are "in"...we are growing...regular pumpkins (from last fall's rotted pumpkins), giant (possibly over 100 llb) pumpkins, watermelons, cantaloupes, Big beefy tomatoes, zuchinni, cucumbers, cilantro, carrots and 1 jalepeno. I love gardening!! Next year we'll have 1 large garden.
*CHS has a contract ready for me...

Christopher's eye looks just as bad this morning...it is so puffy and red! Poor guy can't see so well when his lid sticks out so far. He took benedryl and zyrtec so hopefully, he'll have a better day at school. Some of the girls in his class teased him about it...that made him feel pretty bad about how it looked. I'll have to "discuss" that with them when I'm at school ftomorrow for lunch duty!
I'm getting my hair cut today...not sure why since I'm trying to grow it into a different style...what style you ask?...I have no idea!!
This afternoon my day gets pretty busy...here's hoping the storm comes through early and both soccer practices are cancelled!
Ok, I must go to Wal-mart...our dinners last night consisted of the following: Christopher had left-over baked beans and mac n' cheese, Cat had cheese and crackers and then a scrambled egg with ham and I had a scrambled egg and ham in a pita. Well, I guess that doesn't sound too bad... at least we didn't just have chips or something like that.
I only got a quick text message from Calixto last night...it was a long day. I hope to hear from him sometime today.

Life at our house
Saturday morning Christopher had what appeared to by a stye on his right eye lid...this morning it was really puffy with lots of little bumps. this is how it looked this afternoon-a little less puffy but still pretty big...sorry for the blurriness! anyway, I sent him to school and he called asking me to pick him up-it was really bothering him. I made an appointment with an Optomitrist friend, since his pediatrician is out of town. He thought it was a stye at first glance but upon further investigation declared it to be an allergic reaction to something. Most likely he had something on his hand and rubbed his eye-b/c they are so itchy from allergies. We will keep an eye on it for a few days and give him benedryl to help with the itchiness. Poor guy I feel terrible for him! (Just look at those beautiful eyelashes-Mine don't even come close to that with mascara on!)
Here is just a random picture of Catherine-I took it the other day to show her hair...it is so cute this way...the picture just makes me smile! She will be having her pictures taken at dance class tomorrow in her monkey costume, I have to figure out what to do with her hair before then-she'll be wearing a little hat. the costume is adorable on all the girls! I am excited about the upcoming recital in May.
We had a good weekend, the kids both had soccer games-Christopher's team had another shut out and both he and Cat scored goals. We were playing against a friend's team and so after the game I took Christopher's friend with me and the other family took Cat with them-a good time was had by all! I came home and got busy making bread/corn bread and mowed the front and back yards...whew! I was tired that night! Cat and I went to a friend's b'day party that evening and had so much fun with everyone there! I enjoyed the great fellowship with families I don't get to hang out with that much!! We ended up getting home pretty late and we were both asleep w/i a few minutes!
On Sunday we went to a life group after church that friends invited us to...they are just trying to get it up and running. We are going over the 23rd Psalm verse by verse. Again, I so enjoyed the fellowship...can you tell what we've been missing?! But, I came home with such a bad headache and spent the remainder of the afternoon on the couch!
Today I dug up a flower bed against the house that gets sun most of the day. It was really hard work-there were tons of these plants that spread and the roots are huge and deep! I got a whole wagon full of them. There is also a lily that my mom would like us to give her...that would be my pleasure if I can only get it out of the ground...I worked on it all day and still it doesn't budge...the roots must be 10 feet deep...I'll try again tomorrow but, I may have to take an axe to it?! I'm thinking maybe I can use that space for an herb garden or a small vegetable garden. It has been a fun and tiring project...more to continue tomorrow!
Calixto's trip is going well, they are supposed to visit 3 mission sites today. The heat is unbearable! He decided...no more trips in April! Ok, I guess I'm going to have to go figure out what to eat for dinner it is almost 6:00 and I have no motivation to cook!

I realized that I haven't updated on our family happenings lately. Last weekend we went to Glen Rose to meet with team members for our upcoming trip to Mexico. We had a wonderful time of fellowship with friends and heard a great message at church on Sunday. On our way back we pulled over on the side of the road b/c Cat had spilled some Sprite, when we did we ran over a long, huge nail...it was stuck in the side of the tire. Calixto changed the tire and we were on our way in no time but, the tire had to be replaced the next day as you can not fix a hole in the side of the tire! We arrived home in time to watch the superbowl...disappointing as the game was!
My parents were here and we didn't really have work for my dad to do, well we have plenty of work, just no money to spend on it. We did ask him to look at the tub/shower that were plugged up, thinking that would be something simple but, of course it turned into a big project! There is no access to the pipes in that bathroom. The crawl space is only a few inches under that part of the house. We are assuming there was a trap door in the floor of the bathroom closet but the previous owners turned that into a shower. Our only option was to cut a hole in the floor of the living room closet (thank goodness that closet is there!). After some work the clog was removed...I'm sure Cat's hair was to blame! He also fixed the "handicap" toilet that seemed to leak all the time. Wow...what a savings for us...thanks to a dad who is a "jack-of-all-trades". We also decided we "have" to replace our windows, we ordered them and my dad will install them before they leave for NJ at the end of the month.
Christopher had a great game on Saturday, he scored several times and seemed to finally find his groove! They had to turn the scoreboard off the score was so high...28-0! They have lost to the 2 hardest teams but, they played very well and the scores on both of those games were close.
I have just finished reading a biography of Helen Roseveare, a missionary to the Congo. The book is He Gave Me This Mountain Her life story is amazing. She readily admits her failings and shortcomings as a missionary and as a christian and still God used her mightily! Now, I am onto another of her books Digging Ditches This book is required reading for our missions trip. Her books are truly inspiring!
I have to get my house organized...it is so messy that I can't get anything accomplished...
